The easy answer is post model year 95 ( Chassis later than 'MA' - manufacture after mid 94). At least then most of the forum's info will be reasonably relevant. Whilst it always is a little different for vehicles sold in North America, the Disco didn't really take off here till that model - which a fair number of forum members now possess.
Gday Dennis,
Well being in California he shouldn't need to worry about rust!
Might be worth telling him the usual rust spots though - around the alpine windows and the boot (trunk?!) floor.
The rear chassis to body mounts can get cracks in them and the sill mounts can look like they're 'peeling' off the sill.
There's lots of rubber in the suspension joints to check and a clunk on taking up drive can mean the A frame ball joint has wear in it.
Don't know much about the V8 and auto unf.
Other than pointing him in this forum's direction as others have said, I'd tell him to ring Rovers North (ask for Les). They're on the other side of the US in Vermont but they've helped my dad source vehicles and are always helpful. Their website is also pretty good with some good exploded diagrams of the different bits of vehicles.

Just point him in the direction of this forum, tonnes of info and knowledge here and lots and lots of threads from people asking the same kind of stuff with answers and opinions already there.
Check for rust, leaks, and see if the vehicle has a full service history are good places to start. Don't be too scared of all leaks though, kind of comes with the territory![]()
