    replacement engine

    Hey all im just wondering wondering what the cost would be to rebuild or replace a diesel engine in a disco 1. Also its a manual can you swap in an auto at all and if so how hard is it? Can an auto from a V8 be used? Looking at buying a 96 v8 and 98 diesel tdi with a busted motor.

    The ZF gearboxes are generally considered NOT to be interchangeable diesel-petrol or vice versa

    I would sell the v8 Disco for wrecking after taking any bits you might want and use the money to either rebuild or replace with a second hand 300TDi motor and Auto gearbox, Regards Frank.
