Front windows getting stuck all the way down
Hi all,
I've had this problem since I bought my Disco 2 years ago but haven't ever been bothered trying to fix it.
Anyway now I want to.
If the front windows are wound too far down (below the level of the door) they get stuck down. If the auto wind-down is on the motor keeps whirring away forever. If press the up button, the motor responds but the window just 'clicks' away inside the door.
I have a pair of needle-nose pliers in the car with gaffer tape around the jaws and I can pull it up if they get stuck down.
The vehicle is 1997 Disco 1.
Does anyone have any idea what might the problem be?
By the way, the windows go up and down very normally otherwise.

Best thing to do is take the skin off the door and see if you can visually see what is happening. It could be that someone has "fixed" the arm together not quite right, causing the teeth not to bind when it is on it's down stroke. This happened to mine and when I pulled it apart the spot welds had obviously come apart and a previous owner had welded the regulator to the motor bracket, out enough to let the window get down 75% then not back up.
You may just need to source 2 new front window regulators, but if you do, add a bit of weld for strength so the spot welds don't fail......and the cycle starts again
