    Transmission oil cooler

I am trying to fit a P38A trans oil cooler to my '94 3.9 V8 D1. I have been to numerous Enzed and Pirtek outlets in Melbourne's north but none have fittings that will even go close. Being metric is not helping. Any suggestions please.

I think the people who have done this, used the ends off old hoses and silver-soldered them onto fittings that the companies you mentioned had in stock.

Without seeing what you are up against, I can't be more specific.

    What about posting some pics?

I fitted a P38 Cooler back in August. I got Enzed to silver solder on the lifesaver push-ons (Enzed Product code 39982-8-8) to the existing connectors, they had to machine them down slightly so they fit . Total cost for me was $218.67 including 4 metres of hose ( SAE 100 LP PUSH ON HOSE - Product code 611-8). I did away with the existing temp sensor and fitted a digital gauge instead, this made for less fittings and therefore I got away with 4 x lifesaver push-ons.

Well worthwhile mod and today in heavy sand on Stockton beach the temp never went over 70c whereas in the past b4 the P38 cooler beach driving would often trigger the warning light at 130c (or was it 135c??)

Have you taken the old hose's off yet? the upper one at the gearbox end is a bugger to get to, I bought a flare spanner on ebay which made it a lot easier.

    Cheers

    Thanks for the info Mark.

Do the push-on fittings rely on the barbs to hold the hose on?

I bought a set of stumpy ROE spanners off fleabay for $40 which worked perfectly on the top hose,

    Cheers Charlie

Thats correct, just the barbs hold the hose on and one you push the hose on the only way its coming off is with a hacksaw or stanley knife. Best to put a bit of trans fluid on the end of the hose to make them easier to push on.
Don't worry about the hose flying off under pressure as they are surprisingly secure without the need for clamping.
