Buy a Haynes manual or a RAVE CD ..... and look up the following to check and repair.......

Things to check, listed in order ......



Vacuum advance .... Check that it is working

ECU motor temp sender unit .... Located in front of the number 1 injector ... Check Ohm readings (Hot and cold readings)

MAF (AFM) .... Clean the hot wire

Replace the fuel filter (petrol)

Injectors ..... Given the age of the car ..... chances are they are very dirty and need to be replaced or cleaned .... Start by using Injector cleaner in the petrol .... I use NULON injector cleaner

Replace the fuel filter (petrol) again ......

i have cleaned the maf sensor but no change in the smell.
i have the Haynes book, i'll work with it.
