Tailgate central lock button not staying up

I have a 97 disco. When I unlock the car using the central locking remote the tailgate unlocks but the button fals back down halfway so the door is still locked. If I then use the key in the lock I can use it to raise the button so I can open the tail gate. If anyone can advise what I need to do to fix it I would be very appreciative.

the detent spring in the latch is broken. you can replace it by removing the latch and finding or making a hair spring (they are not available from rover) or use a rubber block to apply some drag on one of the linkages.

Search on ebay for Disco 1 spring - they are available cheap.

I just replaced mine, here is a link to the thread, which was 2 down from yours haha http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...ng-thingy.html, just search Discovery door spring on google, should come up, they are a little toggle spring, about 10mm (the coil is) with 2 little tags coming off them, easy fix if you are mechanically minded, otherwise you need to buy the whole lock from genuine parts.

    Cheers

Thanks for the help. I did see that post but thought it related to a back passenger door not the Tailgate. I will see how I go. Just joined the forum - already been great.
