    Automatic sump pan removal

Hi all, I'm new to forum, although not new to Land Rovers. I initially had an early 3.5L Discovery V8 manual which wasn't real good. I traded that & bought a '99 300 Tdi Automatic. This car has been an absolute ripper. It consistently gets great fuel consumption & although it hasn't done a lot of km's (130,000 km) it hasn't suffered the reliability problems that V8 did. The only issue so far, has been the well documented power steering pulley/bearing chopping out serpentine belt. New PS pump solved that problem.

Anyway I have a transmission filter kit to install & my question relates to removing the nut at rear left side of trans pan. Can i remove the two large bolts from the bracket that holds the transfer case & then jack the whole lot up to better access the nut? LR must have had this fastening designed by the 1st year apprentice!!

Yes just remove the bracket in its entirety and jack the trans up to reach/remove the errant bolt. You will need to also remove the RHS 15mm locknut for the gearbox mount rubber to allow the whole trans to be jacked up so the pan can clear the crossmember and be dropped and slid forward and out past the pickup tube.

I did as JC has suggested but i didnt have to jack the trans up, fiddly but better than dropping the crossmember.
