Ignition Gremlins

So my Gremlin has come back with vengence! I did the whole bee uteys bosch conversion, new plugs,new leads and complete new dizzy.It was running perfect. Yesterday morning perfect than in the arvo a small miss,today a few misses a stall. I swaped between lpg and petrol no change. Then it just DIED! Still have spark at the plugs, fuel is there but NO GO.So im thinking the problem was not the module/coil in the first place.I know if the afm is not connected it wont run, so it cold be broken or maybe its the ecu. Any help or thaughts Thanks

Check the timing manually, turn the motor so that the rotor button is pointing to no.1 cyl, align the reluctor rotor and pickup, then see is the crankshaft pulley mark near correct. Remove the distributor cap, look for moisture, you can wriggle the rotor with the ignition on and see how well it sparks from the coil lead. Try another rotor button, too.

Genuine Lucas is a best bet here.

The Lucas Amplifier does not like high voltage coils very much,my 85 RRC had an aftermarket coil which was an electrical show across the top at night, I replaced with a GT40R(about 90,000v) but it did not like that much, as they overheat the Amp, went back to a Lucas coil (55,000v) and no further trouble and amp runs cool, that was 3 years ago ;) if you have an aftermarket coil, borrow a Lucas from somebody/wrecker and see how that goes.

The Bosch amp he has fitted should handle most coils. The problem seems to be elsewhere.

Oh and there is a Bosch rotor button that works in the Lucas dissy, GB864 (specified for XF carby, looks different but works well).:)

Just back from trying to start it again. Checked manually timing is spot on with no1 plug lead & timing marks. Checked spark at HT lead buy moving dizzy shaft, result a big fat spark, refitted cap and checked plug leads still a good spark.Disconnected gas solenoid and tried to start on petrol(usually fires 3rd kick)cranked for about 6 seconds totally dead! Pulled a plug out and it was very wet with fuel, I think maybe to wet. So thats that, still lost and stuck on the side of the road. The coil I used was the mec717 with the bim024. Thanks

I have had a similar problem while trying to get my megasquirt conversion to fire, the plugs got soaked with fuel while i was troubleshooting the ignition, after trying to clean/dry them to no avail, i ended up putting a new set of plugs in and it fired straight away

or you could try starting it with the accelerator to the floor, it goes into flood clear mode and will no inject any fuel while cranking

Sure sounds flooded. If it won't start with the accelerator held flat, disconnect the fuel pump fuse or relay and try again on gas. Also check the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose, is it disconnected, split or full of petrol?

Still not going, did all of the above killed petrol line and drained it, changed plugs to my old ones which were working fine,It almost starts on gas , its so close. Tested the coil today( the lads thaught the spark did not look blue and strong enough) Going off the Bosch site for the Mec717 coil,primrary res .45 ,secondary res 6.6k. Tested mine it was primary res 1.3 and secondary res was 8.3k. So does this mean my new coil is the source of the problem? Seems like it

The trouble is that all Bosch HEI coils are now made in China. I still prefer using genuine Bosch coils so I get them from wrecking yards. Find a wreckers that has late 80's stuff, get an electronic coil off a Magna, Camira, Falcon etc that is actually Australian made.
