the mounting plate has been torn through.
Hi all
I am new to this forum and must say im loving my rover apart from massive fuel bills..
I have a problem. It has a 3 inch tough dog suspention coils snd aslso a 2 in spacers placed on top of all springs for extra height. It cdme with tough dog big bore shocks included.
I have noticed that when i bounce my rear end, the bottom end of the shock absorber and its bottom rubber bushes of the shock, are both sliding/ coming off the Bottom fastening point. Ive tried tightening rhem but appears already that the bottom bolt of shock is tightened to the max.. Im mot sure what the problem with this set up here is??? Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
It sounds like it needs new bushes etc which can compress.

I have checked already.. Bushes ok! And the plate hasnt torn through.. ! Does it need longer shocks with more thread im thinking now???

The mounting pin is only threaded part of the way, the reminder of the pin is a larger diameter which goes through the mount, with the bushes on each side. If the bushes are worn, or incorrect washers fitted, it would be quite possible to tighten the nut up to the limit of the threaded section without actually tightening up the bushes onto the mounting bracket. This would mean the shock would be held captive, but would have play in the mount.
Does this make sense? It sounds like this may be what you are talking about?
Thanks ntdi!!! Yes that does make sense. Currently there is about 0.5 to 1cm play - too much i reckon and thats with the std bushes top and bottom. Right now as the shocks are set - there not working unless compressed and under load.
I shall try as suggested place extra bushes top and maybe even bottom if i can squeeze in - then retighten... And see how i go..
i think you are missing one of the washers on the top mount (the one with the larger hole as it goes over the mount pin.)
