    Fuel injector pump

Just had my 97 tdi Disco serviced and I have a leaking fuel injector pump (I think that's what it was). Anyway the mechanic said he estimates that will cost $1500 to replace, he's getting me a quote from a diesel mechanic.

Just wondering if anyone else has had something similar and what happened, e.g. cost, further problems

KM diesel (my new goto place for all IP work I dont do myself) will sell you a recoish unit for about $700 minimum a new spec item will set you back about $1500 alone.

Depending on what level of "do it right first time" you wanted I'd go aboout... say $2-400ish to put it in (using no new parts) depending on how hard it fought me on the way in and given the instruction "Fix Everything you might touch on the way in" could easily blow out $2k of your cash (on top of the IP cost) on parts and labour if a lot of things were marginal or within 20K of being due for attention on a service.

A few months back my 300tdi injector pump was leaking from the spindle cover gasket.Quote was over a grand for recon pump due to high k's[300000?]Managed to fix it for less than $30 using info from lr4x4 forum, this included the throttle spindle bush which is also prone to leaking.Straight forward job, took about half an hour, just make sure you record screw/lever settings before dismantling[I took photos]and keep everything meticulously clean.
Found the thread Bosch VE pump seals. .
