hay mate how u going just a quick question i need to get a new fuel pump for my dico 1
would u advise gettin vn v6 commodore one and would it fit. or should i get genuine land rover one and do u know the part number. any help you could provide would be apreciated
I was lucky enough to buy an OE item from one of the members on here. I still have the original pump I took out of mine sitting in the garage. I only needed to change mine so that the fuel gauge sender worked. If your sender is still good and all you need is the pump I'd be happy to arrange something. PM me if interested.
When the sender failed[low level & light on]on my D1.I resoldered the flexible cable to the wiper and retensioned the arm rubbing on the resistance wiring.Worked fine on the bench, but when moving the float in its normal upright position, the wiper arm lost its tension.Altering the angle of the float by bending its wire arm, fixed the problem.
I have just fitted an VN Commodore V6 pump (NB it's the one for the single pump setup not the dual pump) to my 98 Disco after the old pump pumped it's last yesterday. Bought from AutoOne $95. Brand was Fuel Injection Australia. I would rather have had a Bosch but Sunday not the best day for having a choice.
I had to modify some of the rubber spacer pieces to fit that came with the Commodore Kit but no real dramas - only scissors required. I also bought a new delivery hose - needs to be suitable for in tank use as normal efi hose is NOT Suitable for intank use. The plug that fits the commodore pump is not the same as the Disco one - I removed the pins from the Comoddore plug and soldered them directly onto the existing wires. Didn't fancy using heat shrink as I wasn't sure it would hold up immersed in fuel.
Is the fuel pump in an injected RRC the same as a D1 ??
For a 3.9 RRC the fuel pump is functionally the same as a D1 i.e. same flow rate and output pressure. IIRC the RRC uses an in-tank pump like the D1 but I don't know if the D1 pump is physically similar enough to fit in the holder in the RRC tank. This will be the governing issue.
A search here will no doubt uncover more including those who have mounted the pump externally to the tank instead of inside it.
Further to my post, the good news a week later and the new pump seems to have also brought with it a bit more power - think the old dying pump wasn't pumping enough at full throttle.
The bad news, sort of, every start, cold or warm, minutes or days since the previous start, I have to let the fuel pump run with ignition on for it's 2 secs or so and then let it crank for a further 2 seconds or so before it will fire and start.
I'm thinking that the Commodore VN pump I retrofitted doesn't have a non return valve and the original pump did. Or there is a non return valve elsewhere in the system that I don't know about and it isn't working - anybody got any bright ideas ?
The VN pump certainly has a check valve. You can see the valve spring inside the pump outlet. It possibly got a sliver of rubber in it.
A reminder also that the fuel pressure regulator can be faulty. It is supposed to hold line pressure after shut down. If you can get a pressure gauge on the fuel rail you can clamp first the inlet hose then the outlet hose after shut down and see where the pressure is going.
