Perhaps some one could clarify VSI-8?

My limited understanding is
- VSI-8 has been drafted to provide a uniform National Standard.
- In NSW the process of adopting VSI-8 as a standard has stopped.
- Victoria is the only State that has adopted VSI-8

As I see it the current situation where each State / Territory has it's own standards makes it very difficult to modify your vehicle and go touring (legally).

NSW are moving to adopt VSI-50

From the NSW RTA Website:

VSI 50 was originally written to provide guidance to vehicle owners and modifiers about how to ensure their vehicles remain safe when being raised or lowered.

It was developed by an expert working group, comprised on the (then) RTA, industry and peak user groups. Rather than introduce it as a unique NSW policy document, it was decided to refer VSI 50 to an appropriate national forum to consider adopting it nationally. This has not yeat occurred. Before any consideration is given to the introduction of VSI 50 it will be subject to further consultation through the Vehicle Standards Working Group.

Guidance on raising and lowering light vehicles is currently given in section LS in VSB 14. If VSI 50 is finalised it can also be used as guidance material.

If you have had the go ahead from an engineer and you get it done and that engineer to sign off on it you should be fine.

I agree with the above but would add to consult with the person who will be doing the blue slip as well to finelise registration

Don't know how it applies to NSW but it would appear that you need to find an engineer that understands SRS operation, and further to that the Discovery system as well and be prepared to sign off on it. If you can apply the same logic as was done to the Hilux in the link, and IIRC the later D1 system is independent of the chassis (body mounted) then it maybe a goer.

Bodylifting the Hilux - Vehicle Modifications Network

When preparing an article for a car club magazine on the installation and use of certain accessories, I received four different answers from four Qld. Transport officers.

I wrote to the Minister's electoral office advising this and requested a definitive ruling. I also sent copies to the shadow minister, the Dept. head, and the chief of the modifications section. Caused a right poo fight. I did end up with a reply from the minister's office with a definitive opinion signed by the Dept. head.

Why don't you try this approach?
