    Discovery safety rating

It seems that the Disco1 is a safe vehicle to be in an accident, for the driver anyway. I was suprised that the later model jackaroo wasn't as safe as the earlier one.

Not sure about that - I remember when buying a new Disco in 1994 that the standard Disco was sub standard - basically you lost your legs however Discos fitted with airbags (remembering they were a $3000 option at the time) brought the Disco up to a satisfactory standard.

I can recall a UK tv show demonstrating a crash test of a disco that did not so well when compared to a more mdern people mover.

I don't expect airbags to have much effect on how well your legs are protected in the case of a head on.

The airbag tended to keep you in your seat instead of moving forward under the steering wheel.
