Hi Salty,
My D1 has a two inch body lift it had been done before I bought the vehicle, I'm finding lots of little things that maybe you don't always thing about. One was the tranny cooler which is attached to the body work and the pipes go under the chassis rail. The person who fitted the body lift just bent the pipes to suit, I had one fracture, I've now lowered the cooler on the body work so the pipes remain at normal height. Brake lines from the axles, when you jack the vehicle up some of them go as tight a piano wire, the answer I had found was just to undo all the fixing points where the flex attaches to the axle and let the pipe swing free. I'm going to fit longer flexes to eliminate the problem.
4wd gear knob needs an extension. The exhaust system flex at the front is now at quite an angle which I'm sure won't enhance the life. Turbo pipes angle changes, oil cooler pipes to the rad need consideration, mine looked to be rubbing I've now fitted sheaths to protect them from running. Some of the hoses that run from the engine to the bodywork become "tighter" and angles change. Oh and changing the rear bumper mounts so the back door didn't look odd took a bit of figuring out, still doesn't look pretty.
I'm sure if you get a proper fitting kit al these issues will be addressed and if you treat the mod as a bit of a learning curve and a project you'll be in the right frame of mind. There will be ongoing issues but you'll work through them.
For all the pain the 2 inch body lift makes a lot of difference off road and is well worth it if thats what you are doing it for.
Onward and forward.......... it is all fun.
Hey Salty I see your in Thirlmere

Hi Salty, unless you're prepared to get it engineered I wouldn't do it. I've just gone through the process of evaluating putting a body lift on my D1 and its a legal nightmare.
I have spoken to the RTA, engineers, mechanics and the police. They are all now actively targeting modified vehicles - this includes body lifts.
One mechanic I spoke to wont even pink slip a vehicle with a body lift unless it has been engineered.
If your D1 has SRS airbags, forget it. You cant get that engineered at all in NSW.
Hope this helps somewhat.

Yes mine is a green 2 door manual V8 , will have to catch up some time.

If so, your gunna have fun as our off roading is much more challenging than that...you would at least get good use out of your body lift if you came out with us![]()
