I would use some 75 x 3mm steel strap bent to shape and then either buy the clamps or make a set. There is a post on modifying a full length rack off another vehicle to fit a disco with the stepped roof.
looking at building a full length roof rack for my D1, just not sure on how to make the mounts. Anyone made their own racks? any ideas or pictures would be helpful
thanks

And remember that the Discovery gutter has an arch in it. The best way to counteract this is by making the legs shorter in the middle support segment.
Mount the support legs above the pillars.
I would run a support rod along the entire gutter once the leg lengths are finalized.
Don't use too many support slats across the car....they create massive amounts of wind noise.(ask any one with Front Runner Roof Rack!)
yeah ill be sure to take progress pictures
i plan on using 25mmx5mm flat bar along the full gutter length so the load is distributed evenly over the entire roof. ill keep that one in mind. thanks for the help![]()
