    Temp guage

    G'day.
Has anyone fitted an aftermarket calibrated temp guage to a 3.5 V8i engine ?
What brand or model ? Who sells ?
I already have the low coolant level thingy thats sold here on our Forum.
It has worked fine for a couple of years but lately it has started to stay on beeping and light on for too long.
Then at times all is quite when it will start to beep and light up slightly for no reason.
I have checked over a period of time the coolant levels, terminals and connections for the alarm etc: Everything always checks out OK.
So I dont know if these coolant alarm systems have a use by date or what ?
Anyway I would really like to fit an aftermarket, calibrated, temp guage as a back up to me back up alarm system !!!
    But which guage ?
    Anyone got any ideas ?

    Ta.

I bought 1 of these, eary to fit and working well.

SIMPLE WIRING ENGINE WATCHDOG GUARDIAN COOLANT TEMP SENSOR, GAUGE & OIL ALARM | eBay

Or these are made in Australia.

ENGINE WATCHDOG TM2 COOLANT TEMP SENSOR, GAUGE & ALARM | eBay

I bought the first one because I liked the looks of it and it had some nice features. Either would do the job.

He's already got one of those, as per his post.

I'm pleased with my Autron 3 in one gauge. Oil pressure, water temp and digital temp currently used for oil temperature but will work with a sender placed in other locations. You could even put a temp sender on opposing ends of the coolant cycle - one at the top of the block, one on bottom radiator hose - to verify cooling system health.

Sorry. I didnt realise that " low coolant level thingy thats sold here on our Forum." was a temp gauge.

I thought he wanted to fit a temp gauge. "Anyway I would really like to fit an aftermarket, calibrated, temp guage as a back up to me back up alarm system !!!

    Thanks Dave.
I will order the TM2 thingy later today. Sounds like the way to go.
I will have to think about the best place to mount the terminal on the engine.

What I already have installed is an ESSLR3 Engine Saver alarm. Which as we all know does not give a temp readout.
It has worked well for a couple of years but it has recently started to act funny for no reason that I can discover.
Has me nervous as I have already destroyed one engine from over heating,
hense my intention to fit an aftermarket calibrated temp guage as well.
I would like to monitor slow increasing temps and variations also.

Ol of I have the tm2 and it's great my tep was getting to about 100-110 on it and the dash gauge didn't even move! Now with a new radiator it never goes above 90

Hey Robert, I fitted my temp sender to one of the bolts on the thermostat housing. Works a treat.

Thanks Dave, then I shall do the same as you and mount it there.
    Easy peasy, eh.
I will hard wire the thingy rather than using the ciggy lighter as I already use that to plug in the inverter to power my EEE computer GPS.

PS: I ordered the thing from Ebay a bit earlier.
