number of drive belts for fan a/c etc is usually a good guide, 3-4 is likely a 3.5, just a single multi rib belt is likely a 3.9

others will tell you it is not that simple, but its near enough

Disco 1s 3.9s from about Oct 93 to May 94 had fan belts and 3.9 RRC had fanbelts for even longer so the chance of a 3.9 having belts rather than a serpentine is reasonable.

    Go by engine number.

When we fitted a stroked (5.0L) 3.9 to a 93 discovery we swapped it back to V-Belt as it allowed more accessories to be reconnected (Endless air etc).
