    255/85R16, will they scrub?

    Hi everyone,
I know there have been a lot of tyre threads and there's a lot of conflicting information so I thought I would ask the question specific to me and my situation. I have a D1 with a 2 inch lift. Will 255/85R16 (BF Goodrich MT KM2) on 16" x 8" steel wheels fit underneath and not scrub? I have already ordered a flare kit so the guards will be cut and flares fitted before the tyres go on. I am trying to avoid doing a body lift if I can get away with it. These tyres should be 33.1 x 10.5 in the old scale and I can grab them at a good price currently.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. The car isn't a daily driver and just for weekend fun. Or should I just settle for 265/75R16 (31.6 x 10.4). As the tyres will last a while only being used on weekends I don't want to go smaller and realise I cold have gotten more under the guards but I also don't want them scrubbing every time it flexes.

    Cheers,

    Damo

I think they will unless you run super stiff springs or extend the bumpstops. I ran 235/85s with a 2 inch BL and flexi springs and could scrub tyres on full tuck. No sway bars and an early D1 which I read had slightly smaller wheel arches than later d1, not sure if that is true or not.

I ran this the equivalent of this size on my D1. As you are cutting the guards and fitting flares the offset rims should fit ok but you will need to remove and flatten out the steel rear mudflap bit that protects the fuel filler pipe as they will hit on compression. This needs to be done on each side.
    Cheers, David.

Because of tyre variations, different offset rims, sway bars and different springs/shocks etc, some get scrub some do not.

Do the mud flap brackets as above, let me know if you want pics. you may still get some scrub on full articulation but not enough to damage the tyres or bodywork.

The steering stops may need adjusting, depending on what offset the rims have. trial and error there, they just rub on the radius arms so again no damage done

Also I had to cut 30mm off of the side of the ARB bullbar because the tyres scrubbed there too.

    hope this helps.

Thanks everyone, I now have a lot more to think about. The wheels I was looking at was -25 offset but now think I may have to go '0' offset wheels to give me the least amount of scrubbing if my calculations are correct.

-25 rims will be ok, you will need to do wheel arch flares tho.
