    ****in mechanics

Just got my 95 disco back from the mechanic in *** ***** after having a new clutch fitted. was quoted 1058$ but the job ended up costing me $790. I supplied the parts etc. So I was happy until I picked it up, greasy footprints all through the drivers floor and grease all over my driver seat cover, but, I had removed the center console myself as I didnt trust them not to break it, plus I left specific instruction for them NOT to replace it as I would do it myself. Well they replaced it didnt they and in the process snapped it and lost the mounting bracket in front of the tranfer lever, not only did they break it but it was just sitting there not screwed on etc. I was very unhappy with the mechanic and explained to him I had asked him not to put it back together. The boss came over and I explained to him I was pleased the clutch job hasd been done but very displeased with all the grease through my car and the broken center console. I asked him dont you use plastic floor and seat covers, answer no. He said we will replace the console and sort out the carpets, come inside and pay the bill. My car was running in their yard keys in it. I said see you later mate, call me once you have the center console and we will talk about the bill and getting my carpets clean. I didnt want to pay and then never see the replacement console. Should have been aware when I booked it in and the boss told me he hates working on landrovers.
I didnt pay them to like landies, I paid them to fix my car and treat it like it was the last one left in the world.
    no respect these days.
    my rant over

good thinking by not paying the bill. yes it sucks that these things happen, it seems like it is happening more and more though.
Bad workmanship is one thing but how lazy and clumsy of them to leave it dirty. i hope you get it all sorted soon

Can I offer some condolences as shop owner.
I have been owning and running an 9 bay Independent repair shop in Golden CO USA for about 15 years and five years before that in a rental shop south of the Denver metro area.
    Welcome to LinDen Engineering

What you are posting should never have happened.
First the buck stops with the owner of the business, and a mechanic doing a half assed job will get someone fired!
Equally not taking the time to clean or keep clean a customers vehicle is a sign of a careless shop.
I have had in all the years of doing this my ups and downs, with my staff doing crap work on a few occasions but it has always been put right at our shop cost if we were at fault.
On the whole I enjoy a good customer CSI and I take the time to ensure customer satisfaction. I test EVERY car before delivery and check for acceptability. The last time a guy did this type of stuff in my shop he was fired on the spot!
    No ifs or buts!
Again sorry you had that experience.

Yeh wouldn't mind a stunt Down Under especially with all the election crap going on over here at the moment. (He's been bloody well campaigning for about three years to get re-elected!)

    As a laugh
The other month I had a fellah visiting Denver from Melbourne drop in and admire some Pinzgauers I have on the lot.

"Neverthought I would find a Pom running an Auzzie style garage in America"! came the comment!
I said "Sorry mate, got no Castlemaine in the fridge"!
    Cheers Dennis
