Engine removal 3.9 auto
Hi , in the proccess of removing my 3.9 but am a struggling with removing the four torque converter bolts as there seems to be no space to get a socket in and unbolt them . Do i need to remove the engine sump for access ? Also any hints on removing the main bell housing bolts would be greatly appreciated .

You can access the bolts with the sump in place, rotate the plate until the bolt is up near horizontal though.
Seeing as the motor is coming out, remove the engine mounts & you can lower it by a few cm which makes getting out the top bolts a lot easier.

I took a few pics the last time I swapped out a 3.9, thread here:
Fitting a '92 3.9 RRC motor into a '94
The torque converter bolts are difficult but not impossible, if the flex plate is rotated just right you can get your socket and ratchet in alongside the sump. With my socket set I had to half engage the socket on the ratchet to reach the bolt heads. Remove the little round plate off the bottom of the bell housing as all the bolts and sockets you drop will just fall out of the hole.
