    Interesting Titbit

When I was with the land rover mechanic the other day, I was saying that I would like to end up doing my own servicing of the Disco down the track.

He said I will give you a tip, when you change the oil drop out the old and put in the new then remove and replace the old filter, I can't remember his exact words but the reason had to do with air locks.

Can any one confirm this and expand on the reasoning.

    Regards
    Rich

the only reason you would do that is so you catch all the oil from the sump first then move the drain tin to under the filter to catch any mess under the filter, but you wont catch it all unless you drop the filter into a plastic bag.

There is this old wives tale that the pump will lose prime unless you refill the sump before removing the filter.

As far as I am concerned I always change oil in the normal way and have never had a problem. And that now covers 22 years of RRC ownership. Maybe I am just lucky!LOL

Non LR Mechanics love these 'insider knowledge ' bits of BS.

It can happen on the v8's occasionally and usually only if its a worn engine/pump.

so long as your quick to do the change it wont happen.
