Need new lock mechanism for 1992 Discovery

    Hi,
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction, I can't unlock my Discovery 1 using the key in the driver or passenger lock. A mechanic has checked it over and says the locks are just worn and I need a new lock mechanism.
However, I am currently living in the Kimberley, a remote area of WA, so I would have to get the parts delivered.

Can anyone recommend or suggest somewhere where I can buy the parts?

    Thanks

There are a few sellers on ebay that part them out, they will probably ship and cheaper than a wrecker. Do a search for Land Rover Discovery Parts. Also, if the central locking works, how about getting an auto elec to install a remote actuator.

Could it be the internal spring that broken! Its certainly much cheaper than replacing the whole lock! If it just doesn't pop the lock completely open this could the the culprit?? Do a search on here for lock springs, I know they have been discussed recently. I bought some from Rover parts (on-line) which are in victoria recently which can be posted. Also believe they may have the whole locks on their website also. You may try the usual UK on-line shops but they take longer for delivery.

Thanks for the advice and feedback guys. The mechanic I took it to said I needed the lock mechanism, and as I know little to nothing about cars, I didn't ask for specifics, but I will go and find out if it could just be the springs or if I could get a remote actuator

theres 5 parts to the overall locking mechanism

    1. the actual key barrel
    2. the inner handle
    3. the outer handle
    4. the lock assembly
    5. the central locking assembly.

I'm about to pick up a second hand disco with a dead donk.

If you can identify which parts you need I can probably be conned into parting them out for you.

    additionally

if its the lock assembly you can just get the spring kits for them, pull the lock respring it and put it back in again.
