    low range judder

    Hi all I have just purchased a boat and need to reverse it into the garage, simple enough but the driveway is on a slope. So I thought maybe if i put the disco into low range I would have more control at slower speeds. The problem is that when I was half way up the drive it started to judder like it was going to stall. So I thought maybe I was driving like a little girl, Time to give more revs and try again, same thing happened. I then turned to plan "b" and put it in to high range and all was good apart from slipping the clutch a little/lot. Can anyone explain? Disco is a 1996 V8 manual. The clutch has recently been changed (August) and it had a new transfer box at the same time. All worked well when driving on the flat

    Any chance you had the CDL locked in? If so, maybe you are getting a bit of wind up? This would be my first thought.

    If you are on a hard surface of some kind this could be possible. You shouldn't need to lock it to reverse the trailer. Just push it up into Low Range.

    Thanks libertyts, yes my mistake it was in diff lock and on hard surface (just not thinking) Hopefully when i do it again this will fix my problem.

    Judder in low range reversing

    Hi All

    I've just noticed when reversing a trailer (with about a tonne of firewood onboard) up a slight incline in low range, that I'm getting a fairly serious juddering. It doesn't do it in high range. I just had to slip the clutch to get it up the drive to get it done on this occasion. I checked the trailer brake reversing lockout was on - it was. So then I tried it on another tandem trailer without trailer brakes and the same thing happened, so it isn't something specific to the trailer. The CDL isn't engaged. And it doesn't do it without the trailer. Defender 130 1998 300tdi.
    Anyone got any ideas?
