    stupid question I know

    hello people,

    had my
disco months now, and very happy, but shocks are on the way out and I'm after replacing them, no problem researching make and model BUT, think previous owner fitted a 50mm spring lift, looks taller than a standard one, can anyone with either a definite lift or a definite standard height chuck a tape on a spring and tell me how long they are when they're in, just roughly so I know if I need standard or plus 50 on the new shocks.

    thanks as always

So - you want the spring height? Is that right?

On my D1 with a nudge bar, no winch and dual batteries in the front: the front spring length is 262mm. Springs are TJM 2" lift.

    Does that help?

I suspect what he wants is the clearance from the axle plate to the bumpstop.

Thanks for all your replies, I am more confused than before, the springs measure 280mm as it sits but the center of the wheel to arch height is almost exactly standard, any ideas?

IMO if you are measuring 470 or close at all corners then standard shocks certainly be ok. Mine measures 520 rear and 510 front and standard billies are fine.

I've got 470 pretty much on the nose at all 4 corners so standard height is looking likely, problem is I thought I has a 2 inch lift from PO so have bought some 265/75 muds for play tyres, looks like the minister for finance may have to authorise a spring budget to get them under the Disco and moving without hitting, never mind!
