Front p38 diff into a disco?

I'm after an easy option for a wider front diff for my D1 to keep the steering as good as I can with a wider width track!

Considered Toyota and Nissan but not really wanting too much work. The later range rover 1996+ and D2 have wider diffs! And I imagine it would be an easy fit.

Anyone done this conversion? or just not worth the work due to not much of an upgrade!!

You imagine wrong... Probably much easier to fit a Patrol diff in the front and a LandCruiser diff in the rear.

The diff centre on the Range Rover mentioned is on the other side to the D1/D2.

Yeah true, the diff is on the wrong side. But the d2 is on the same as the d1 and as far as I know everything is the same, the d2 are wider by about 55mm overall same as the p38. I'm wanting to keep it all rover if I can, but I'm wanting a little wider at the front to keep handling good and at the rear put adaptors to get the same width and stud pattern.

Think it would all bolt in?

Disco2 definately wont just bolt in. You'll need to fabricate things to make it work at both ends od the 4WD.

For the sake of 50mm, you can run offset rims. I would avoid adaptors personally.

Adapters are illegal. I wouldn't trust them offroad

i think if you have a good quality set of spaces, use them correctly and with not stupid widths they will be more then fine. id be more worried about a **** set of alloy wheels.

so don't just talk about it, you know it all so go and do it, and take pics of your success/failure!
It's going to be quite a machine, 4 door disco converted to 2 door converted to a pickup, with a longer wheel base and wider track for 'better handling'

its going to be so worth it mate!

Just go negative offset rims , It will work out way cheaper , You can even get D1 rims flipped and end up with massive offset or buy Dynamic -25mm rims
