    D1 body lift

Having done a few good trips recently I've been dying to get a good set of tyres and do a small body lift.
I was wondering what else needs to be addressed when doing the lift such as brake lines etc? I'd probably be looking at 2''

    Cheers.

You don't say whether you have a suspension lift. If not it would be a lot easier and possibly cheaper to just do a 2" spring/shock lift, then you don't have to change much at all???? Gary

my D1 had a 2 inch body lift (plus 2 inch spring lift) and you need to allow for new extended seat belt anchors (available from the UK - better quality) and if you want to maintain a 'look' then your front and rear bars will need their mounting raised. If it is an air bag model you cant raise the front bar as it changes how the air bag will set off (so I was told) so I left my front and rear bars as they were but had the rear chasis ends showing above the bar and had to leave the front 'side wings' off the bull bar. If you have a rear torsion bar then you should fab up extended mounts for this or you will turn it inside out - mine did so I left it off as my *suspension set up meant I didn't really need it. On that, your suspension may also need to be changed to allow for the raised centre of gravity or you may find badly increased body roll. Also, I had rear relocation cones as at full flex the rear springs would 'dislocate'. Theres probably a lot more I have forgotten too!! - over to others to fill the gaps

*I had 2 inch raised EFS springs all round, EFS shocks up front and Pro-comp 27" shocks on the rear - it flexed exceptionally well and handled hilly twisty roads with no more body roll than standard

EFS did for me - see post below. Make sure you tell them what you want/need as in: how much weight over the rear axle? (long range tank, water tank, tools, fridge, etc) How much over the front? (bull bar, winch, etc)

    Hi Mike,
Mine has a 2 inch body and a 2 inch suspension lift, lots of little things, brake lines is one, tranny cooler pipes and the mounting of the tranny cooler, steering obviously, transfer case gear shift needs to be longer, there are lots of little things, like the occasional hose that is just that bit to short, the oil cooler pipes need to be modified slightly. One good thing the body lift takes the cooling water expansion bottle high enough that you don't have all the issues with bleeding the cooling system.
I bought mine after the body lift had been done, te major bits had been done right, the minor bits were a bit average to say the least. Oh and the exhaust expansion bellows under the passenger footwell takes on a new angle, I ended up cutting out the centre muffler and just put a pipe in. Mine was a 300 Tdi, I suspect there will be similarities.
