    Bilstein Rear Shock Part Number

    Hi All,

I have seen a lot of references to two different part numbers for Bilstein rear shocks for a Disco 1. The part numbers are B46-0253 and BE5-2779.

I have also found a site that says the BE5 shock is 10mm shorter than the B46 shock!

So which is the correct part number for a 1997 Disco 1 V8 Auto ???

    Thanks, hoping someone will know.

B46 0253 is for early RRC , Defender 90/110 and Disco, or vehicles that have had the lower cups removed that hold the shock rubbers in place. If you still have those cups spot welded to your lower axle mounts, then you must use BE5 2779.

    OR;

Personally, I air chisel off those pesky cups and fit the B46 0253....

OK thanks, that's very interesting. I will check in the morning if the brackets are there or not.

Also I found another reference today that says

    89-95 V8 use B46-0253
    95-99 V8 use B46-0255
    TD4 use BE5-2779

Do you know how the 0255 shocks differ to the 0253 ?

0255 is actually the full set, not 1 shock.

td4 ( 200/300 tdi) take the same rear shock as the v8, as i said the cups are what dictate the shock you use. the difference is in the length of the bottom pin, the pin on the 2779 is longer than the 0253 and takes totally different bushes.

remove the cups and fit 0253's.

Question Shocks - what to get?

Need to replace front & rear shockers on 1996 TDi, and NOT after heavy duty, as mainly used on-road, at times loaded up in the back. When off-road, rarely carrying a load. Need bushes & washers and nuts as well, as current rear bushes parted company with lower mounts, leaving shockers dangling from top mount ops

Sorry, think I might have just muscled in on someone else's post . . . was supposed to be a new one!

Smile Hello - Newby logging in

    Hello,
My first Disco, '96 - 300TDI Auto is no longer registered - rusty sill after 450K
Tried '01 - TD5 Auto for 300K - loved it but too many issues & have reverted to another 300TDI - manual this time.
Thinking of new suspension - standard height + bilsteins - for road & sand hillls 70:30 use.
I'd like to research some of the threads from yesteryear or accept some new advise.
    Thanks.
