New Manifold or Headers??
Hi guys, I've just bought a D1 1996 ES 3.9L for under $3000 with 165000k's on it (in Gold Coast) but it doesn't have a rwc or rego. I had my brother in-law go have a look at it as he's a petrol head from way back (I'm in Hervey Bay), he said it was in great condition for age & must have been used as a town car.
Now the part I'm asking about, he said (in-law) it had a cracked manifold & that's all it would need for a rwc. Would I be better off getting headers or sticking to stock manifolds?????
Any thing else I should know about this particular model, thanks

Just get a second hand manifold and bolt it on. They flow plenty well enough for the engine and it will be dirt cheap.

As BigJon said, grab a 2nd hand one. A new set of extractors for the Disco is going to set you back about 700 clams give or take.

Stock
If that's the silver one from Ebay, then I think you got a good deal.
Stay with the stock manifolds, cheap, easy and available.
You could start to make mods, but where do you end?
Remember, you'll sell the car one day, and the value you put on mods will return you about 5c in the dollar.
Not worth it, and they sound good stock anyway....

Yeah it was that one, it turned out to be just a badly done casket replacement, read el cheapo, & they didn't tighten studs properly, now has oem ones in & I've got the other-side for spares.
I had an eventful drive home from Tweed Heads but, pulled into Gympie Land Rover & got a used drivers seat as I was sick of sitting on metal, seat was totally collapsed, & got the shock of my life, boy do you sit up high in these things LOL had to change all my mirrors haha. Aircon seems to work when IT wants to, it boiled all of a sudden just after Gympie, I had been watching the gauges constantly for any little things like this. I was warned by my mechanic down there (Gold Coast) who did the gasket that viscous fan was on its way, but what I didn't know was the thermo fans had an on/off switch which I'd been playing around with in Gympie to see what it was, know now though
. Andersons LR up here are replacing today for 285 fitted
, it also seems to rev up & down at idle it's not the dizzy vacuum as tested that & last (at the moment) it is stalling when I put into gear when cold 3 times out of 5
Apart from that it drove beautifully on the Hwy, smooth as, steering was great as were brakes.
For towing & the occasional play should I do the 2" lift or just firm up the rear suspension?? it has Bilstein shocks but skinny as coils.
