Window mechanism question, please help
Hey guys and gals,
I was driving along this morning with my drivers window down, without looking at the button because i was concentrating on the road, i pressed down instead of up and something went "click" and the window will not move. I can still hear the motor going strong, so i researched as much as i could and pulled the door trim off and unbolted the bolts that hold the motor in place, managed to get my window up and ziptied it in place until i can fix the problem...
The problem seems to be the "half moon" shaped cog thats attached to the window reg has gone too far and isnt biting the driving cog on the motor. This is where im up to at the moment, any help would be fantastic. Im hoping someone has experienced the same scenario lol

buy a new part
you need a new assembly minus the motor. Go to Jag and Rover spares - was in Kelvin grove.. He has them new. Should be no more than $110.

Have you tried realigning the regulator and cog back up. I think there's 3 bolts holding the 2 together. If your plastic square roller piece that slides along the rail has broken then you'll need new regulator, if not you can align them easy. I do it out side of the car with a 12 v and work out which way it needs to turn to make it go, then bolt it back in the window

If you don't mind waiting a couple of days try giving Cairns Landrover Specialists a call. I just got a set of regs for both sides for $110 and it took 24 hours for them to arrive.
I had a very similar issue with mine before the roadworthy and found that the new regs fixed the whole issue they're spot on now very smooth and quiet.
I did the same as you and tinkered with the old cog and motor trying to get them to behave but it's an uphill battle unfortunately once they're tired.

i appreciate all the tips so much guys, seriously big help. I wish you were wrong Very Disco, but something tells me you are right, i was reading about a little lug or something getting worn off the end of the "half moon cog" and thats why this has happened?
i have the window ziptied up at the moment and the motor hanging in the centre of the door by whatever attaches it to the reg, i am a complete novice at this and im happy with how far ive gotten without a problem so far, but i find it so god damn hard to see in the door to get the motor out, im a very visual person and when i cant see whats going on i struggle haha

If you have the window up man you're better to remove the whole reg including motor if you can.
Once you have it out you can get a look at it properly.
I've read about the problems others have had with the stopper on the cog but my issue was caused initially by the channel that mounts the reg to the glass rusting out and bending and damaging stuff so was a slightly different situation but same symptoms.
I was trying to get mine on the road on a tramp spec budget when I got them out and stripped them down for a proper look at the state of the reg, even though I could have straightened them and got them working again it's honestly just such an arse hole of a process that you'll be glad of the new reg, peace of mind and stuff especially now it's the wet season.

Many thanks for all the tips again! I fixed it today by replacing the reg, even though the tracks and nylon rollers were fine, the crescent cog had somehow jumped and jammed on the lugs below it, I will get some quality pics of the issue so hopefully it will help diagnose other peoples issues.
I gotta say I'm really happy with how it all went, didn't break one trim clip! (Of course because i pre purchased a pack)
