Question Idle Surges?????? & Other Niggly Bits

Hi peoples, I am a new owner thus am new on here so here goes, just bought a 96 (April build) 3.9 auto & am having a few niggly probs.
At idle wether in park or another gear it surges up & down between 1000 & next to nothing but NOT all the time just enough to be a wee bit dangerous at times i.e. lights, carparks etc. Once above 1000 rpm's it's fine & drives beautifully, a lot better than I was led to believe it would.
Another niggle is the aircon seems to have a mind of it's own, cold as one minute then turns off this is a prob with the heat/rain & humidity up here (Hervey Bay Qld) at the moment.
Another one is something I'm not to sure if is standard or not, the T-bar area on centre console gets quite warm, I've been told by an old Disco owner that this was pretty normal
I'll leave it at that for now, any info would be muchly appreciated, thanks

Had similar on my old D1 V8 (surging) so I cleaned the stepper motor and it was fine after that. As for the Aircon check the gas pressure if it's too low or too high it will cut out.
And yes they do get warm around the gear lever/centre console

Thanks for the quick reply, umm showing ignorance here but what & where is "stepper motor" & how do you clean them. Also how do you check air-con pressure or is that a specialist thing, so heat there is just a generic thing eh that takes a bit of worry away, thanks heaps for all the info Ivan

Looks like the air-con is WAY over pressure but have to wait till next week for new canister/dryer as the air-con guy reckons it looks like the original .
As for the surges it was the air-flow sensor, not cheap cleaned the stepper motor & tightened a lot of other stuff up (dizzy for one). Motor seems to run a lot smoother now & the guy at Andersons reckon's I'll get a lot better fuel figures now

    Question

Here's another little one, with all this REALLY heavy rain over the last couple of days I have noticed a small drop of water coming out of rear drivers side speaker. I removed said panel & there was the smallest amount of water presence on inside pillar wall. I looked everywhere I could but couldn't see where it comes from as it's so small an amount. Anyone out there had similar probs?? if so what was it? as I don't know how worried I should be, thanks
