Are all series 1 Petrol Tanks Interchangeable?

Hi guys, just wondering whether anyone knows a thing or two about Series 1 Discovery fuel tanks.

I have a 1996 Discovery that has a duel fuel system fitted, so two medium sized LPG tanks plus a small (about 25-30 litre) petrol tank. I want to take the LPG system out and just run it on petrol, but I'm going to need a bigger tank!

Are all the standard series 1 petrol tanks the same size, and are they mounted the same way, same screws etc? Would I be able to take a petrol tank off any other series 1 model year V8 and put it straight onto my 1996 V8?

    Thanks a lot!!

All the plastic D1 tanks are the same, as well as the late RRC tanks with the high filler. You will need to also get the steel brackets that go under and over the tank as they are not part of it.

Hi Gary, thanks for that. Byford's a little far away for me at this stage

Thanks Gary. Byford's probably a bit far for me at the moment.

Hi bee utey, what's an RRC Tank with high filler? My filler is just slightly higher than the door handle if that's what you mean?

    Thanks?

RRC high filler is the same height (just below window level), the same plastic filler neck, the same chassis as D1.

Earlier RRC had a steel petrol tank, filler was just above bumper level.

Thanks bee utey! So I can use the fuel tank off a series 1 Disco or a classic Range Rover eh? That widens my options up nicely

Try and get a late Disco1 tank as the earlier ones (94-96ish?) crack around the breather connection.

Mine is a 94 (MY95) and it is cracked. I just don't fill it right up otherwise it leaks out the crack.

There was a recall for it in other countries.

Hi Uteman. Is that a bit of black hose that those cracks develop in? I've just recently taken out the tank and replaced all of the hoses in and around that area as mine had the same problem - if I filled it more than half way I'd lose fuel out cracks in the hose. Aside from the hosing and tubes, do you know if there's anything questionable about the earlier tanks?

    Thanks for your help!

The cracks form in the tank itself.
Where the breather outlet joins the tank.

I had my tank out twice before I found that out.
