    Question Centre Diff Lock?????

Hi peoples, was just wondering how you engage cdl as I've tried to move the small lever over to passenger side but it doesn't seem to want to go??????

If the lever hasn't been moved into the lock position for a long time it can jam. It might need penetrating lubricant applied on the linkages underneath the console.

This is Land Rovers way of telling you to go offroad more often.

Just bought it & I don't think previous owners went off-road, I can get High, Neutral & Low easy enough though.

The cross-shift mechanism will be seized on the to of the gearbox, it's a common problem, as said by others because the CDL has not been engaged often enough. Best way to attacck it is through the top, remove centre console and drill out rivets that hold the rubber insulation panel into the tranny tunnel, you will see the offending seized part, soak it in WD or some penetration oil and forcefully exercise the lever left to right when it's free and moving L-R as it should, apply some grease then cover it all back up.

Thanks guys, removed centre console & did as said, took a bit but worked so greased it up, but.......... centre console jeez!!!!!
Whoever owned it before me did some mucking around with that, window controller part is broken all over the place then heat welded (where they could) with a hot screwdriver or something. It's only being held there by the 2 screws in the centre well/box & they're cracked most of the way. I've used a fair bit of bluetack for now just to hold everything in place LOL, chasing some more parts again but what's new when owning a 4b .
Main thing at the moment is I can't get the h/brake connected again, the rod that's connected to the button stops me from putting in the lock pin, might have to go to a mechanic I think

Get underneath and back off the park brake adjustment by at least 3 or 4 turns, this allows the cable to be pulled through further. It is a 17mm bolt at 6 Oclock on the park brake backing plate.

That rod that is stopping you from fitting the pin has to be back towards the back of the handle and behind the hole. No amount of backing off at the drum will help.
You need to hold the button down with the brake lever pulled up to get the pin in, a Bastard of a job, good luck, Regards Frank.

I bought my D1 about 2.5 weeks ago and it was a nightmare to get the txfr case to change. I ended up doing it slowly over a few days, lubricant, gearbox in N, try and get N on the txfr case, roll forwards, try again, lubricant etc. Finally got it to go into low range, then worked on the CDL the same way. Eventually it worked, although its sloppy as heck and needs adjustment at least it goes. I tried a little bit each day on the way to and from work in back streets...mainly because I would prefer to sit in the Landy than actually go into work.

**Note - not that I actually drove more than a few meters in l/r or with cdl engaged on the bitumen, I was just trying to get it to work**
