    how far would you go?

I'm bringing a 200tdi disco back from the dead, it has done approximately 250,000kms and has been sitting for most of the past 3-4 years, it started as just getting it right for roadworthy and rego, but now i have decided to go a bit further, i've ordered superpro bushes, new tie rod ends, front and rear brake discs and pads, and body mount rubbers

i'm considering changing the a-frame ball joint also just so everything is relatively new suspension wise

it also has a swivel leak, which i was going to just clean up on the day of the roadworthy test, however once it is back on the road, i'd like it to spend more time driving then me working on it, i figured maybe i should order a couple of swivel kits, which lead me to thinking maybe i should renew the wheel bearings front and rear since i will already be in there, also convert them to oil filled hubs while i am doing it

engine wise, it needs a new timing belt and tensioner, as well as all of the v-belts on the front, in another thread there was talk of replacing the head gasket of a tdi around 250,000kms as a precautionary measure, i'm considering doing that also

the body isn't too bad, but it will be getting a DIY colour change respray at some point using lic 40 paint, it will be changed from gold to white, the clearcoat is peeling off the original paint and it looks crappy

i'm also going to install extended breather lines, and an engine alarm of some kind as well as an EGT gauge, i also have a clear coolant tank to replace the black one

so it is a bit of a mini restoration, but more just creating a base line for further maintenance intervals, and giving me a bit of peace of mind

I have saved it from going to the scrap heap, kept another landy on the road, so i will be keeping it for a long time to come

I cut corners with my v8 discovery and didn't maintain it well enough and as a consequence it is at the bottom of the yard slowly being stripped for parts

so my question is......how far would you go with this? is there anything else you recommend i replace or maintain that i have not mentioned?

Nice to see you keeping another D1 on the road and looking good as they are too nice a unit to just trash and then just end up in the wreckers.
Sounds like you already have the main items covered so I guess it would just be the electrical items that don't operate that would be on my list.
    Cheers

Most of what you are doing is just getting the maintenace up to scratch, the paint job is a personal preference but will improve the cosmetic appearance some what.
So overall you are not going over the top or anything .
