    Smile Roof Rack Options

    I have a D1 - with roof rails - and I want a reasonable size roof rack.

Is it an option to attach one to the roof rails, and if so, where would I get one from?

D1s are going past and I'm suffering from roof rack envy!!!

    Any advice appreciated!!

    Scott

I have Rola sports type which have a smaller one at the front and larger at the back which is just above the roof line and therefore does not affect ability to go in underground car parks, which I never tack off and use for local trips around town with Surf boards etc. When touring I have a set of Heavy duty Rhino Racks which I also put on which are above the upper roof line so together I can use the whole roof if required for trips away when I put a basket and Roof box plus all my surfboards.

If you want the BEST option have a look on the BajaRacks site. bajarack.com.au

The rack is expensive but very strong and about the biggest there is , which also follows the roof profile without sticking up grotesquely at the front which most do.
And yes I am associated with bajaracks and we have 2 in stock.
I didn't look where you lived but hopefully east coast as the freight cost to the West is horrendous. We will give you a good deal. PM if you want to know more.

    Thumbs up

Have a look at New Heavy Duty Roof Racks Suit Rain Gutters 290mm High Landrover Discovery 1 & 2 | eBay

A year go or so I was casting around for racks and a basket and came across these. Bought a set and was most impressed. Mounted a half sized Rola basket. Just recently bought a shade so went back to Trevor at Kay Man and bought a single rack.

They work a treat and Trevor is brilliant to work with.

Your second from last choice should be a Front Runner Wind Cheetah rack...followed by the last choice..... 'make your own'.

I have the Front Runner...I broke two of the support brackets driving a corrugated track with nothing more than a spare wolf rim & BFG AT wheel up top.
Also the cross slats of the Front Runner have no central support so they jump up and down violently...I recently mounted my new Autohome Roof tent and am really alarmed at how much it bounces up and down because of the single unsupported slats.
And then there's the wind noise and constant rumbling associated with the cross welded slats.......it drives me nuts.
My mate just put a Baja rack on his DII....it's awesome & I want one now but because I've spent so much time modifying this dam Front Runner rack I might as well stick with it.
