Start by getting a decent temperature gauge on it (I personally like the Engine Watchdog bolt on ones), and making sure the aircon drains aren't blocked.

This weekend I should be picking up my Disco 1 300Tdi.
I've owned 2 Defenders and an RR Classic in the past, but never a Disco.
I'd appreciate any tips, tricks, things to check, little useful changes & additions etc.
Especiallyif they are inexpensive and/or D.I.Y.
(even things like replacement LED interior lights, stuff like that).
Bring it on !
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Well there is a thread called a cure for all rust (or similar) where someone is considering a disco ute and their photoshop mock up looks great !

I would be looking around for some comfortable front seats, the Disco 1 seats IMO aren't the best, I have an ARB Paratus drivers seat and apart for the outside seat bolster tearing you a new one when getting in and out, it is quite supportive and comfortable. Whenever I ride in the standard passenger seat it doesn't take long before my back cries enough, expensive though at around $1600 each. I have some seats out of an 80's model Ford Falcon in the series III and they are extremely comfortable and they don't interfere with your pooper valve on the way in or out, a bonus, fitting shouldn't be hard and they are cheap, Regards Frank.
Certainly can't be spending that sort of money! (Paratus seat). I reckon I'll see how they go for a while, and whether the Minister for War and Finance is comfortable or not.![]()

lash adjustment, timing belt dust check, general once over of all things dieselly.
ro-org fuel control air piping and some tweakery.
stay on top of tyre rotation, grease shafts, loose the donut, service the cooling system, fit an EMS.

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
Do you mean removing the timing cover, or another easier way?
I purchased an "endoscope" style camera from ebay thinking it might be useful to put through the timing cover hole for a health check (and partly coz I'm addicted to ebay junk), but it seems the crank (and maybe something else?) is directly above the hole and my feeble attempt to push the camera around failed miserably! I couldn't see diddly squat.
I admit I wasn't overly persistent at the time, so maybe I'll just try again.... ?
