Intercooler and cooling question, if anyone knows or has tried it

Hello people, I have an International Tgv (2.8 300tdi) and was wondering if the standard intercooler would be up to the job on the larger engine. Would it be worth putting a td5 intercooler out front and could I then fit the larger V8 radiator, is it a straight swap? Have read a couple of threads on the old interweb, some saying its a good idea and others that tbe td5 intercooler is no better than the 300tdi one, I'm notooking for huge performance or anything, but I do tow a 1500kg van in Queensland in the summer, so I thought a cheap way to cool the intake a bit more and maybe bigger radiator as well would be the go!

Anyone who has done it, clever people who can work it out or us normal folks who have an opinion, interested in any feedback.

    Thanks in advance

the early td5 intercooler is effectively the same size as the tdi one, the later one is a recommendable improvement however its a left to right fitup and not an up and down job, which means additional plumbing to get it to fit in nice.

Thanks, thats just what I needed to know

Don't mind doing a bit of extra plumbing and fabrication to fit as long as its worth it, would the later intercooler be the 2a disco, from 2001ish?

Looks like I might be shopping for one of those then, can't see the insurance minding the intercooler off of another 2.5 landrover diesel!

If you look in the projects section you'll a TD5 into RRC/D1 hybrid and the fitment of the TD5 rad and I/C, TD5 is crossflow hence what Dave mentioned about additional plumbing required for the I/C .

So would the td5 radiator fit?

I believe the D1 V8 manual radiator will fit my manual diesel no problem, never even concidered the td5 one, do they both fit, if so which one is better?

Thanks again for the options people

At a guess i would say the opening is the same as they share mostly the same shell, it will really depend on what size the inlet / outlets are and their position as to which one would be better.
