    Catalytic Converter

I intend to cancel the catalytic converter and leave the lambda sensors.
Do I need to change the tune resistor?
if "yes"' to what color (now its white)?
air flow meter, to keep 1.8v or to change it to 1.2 or what?
    thanks

Which country are you located in? Reason is we here in Aus don't have cats and 02 sensors on our 14CUX.

AFAIK you can cancel the cats, but leave the 02 sensors UNLESS you have both upstream and downstream sensors, (which is unlikely on such an early model I would think) as the downstream from cat sensor provides feedback as to how the cat is operating....

    this is 96 V8

i'm from Israel and we have a cats, but in the 96 we don't have to.
if i'll leave the O2 has is and the resistor and AFM but without the cat, how it will effect the engine Response, fuel Consumption, ecu etc?

The selected tune resistor is there for vehicles that REQUIRE a Cat (and 02 sensors), it just means the fuel control at low engine speeds and especially at idle is as lean as possible for emissions purposes. If you were to remove the 02 sensors, you can then change the tune resistor to suit a non catalyst model. I'm not certain but it may activate the MIL lamp if you do this?
I am certain you won't achieve a fuel consumption improvement,(unless an 02 sensor is malfunctioning or a cat is blocked) but a better idle may be achieved.

PhillipA on here has added 02 sensors to his to improve his economy...

If you are experiencing heavy fuel use (anything over 20l/100km is considered on the heavy side, when unladen normal driving in a D1 V8 ) then if the cats aren't blocked or an 02 sensor isn't failing/ed then I'd look elsewhere like a worn cam, vacuum leaks, valve issues , low compression etc etc.

To adjust the A/F meter, really requires a C0 analyser, BUT that is out the window if any engine wear is apparent. I would set the output to 1.2 and go down from there after you change to a non catalyst tune resistor. The leaner it is (within reason of course), the better idle in 'D if it is an auto.' I have set some at 1 and less to achieve better idle in gear.

While I am at it don't forget if the incorrect or faulty thermostat is installed it will run very rich constantly. Engine temp should get to 85 / 88 degrees ASAP.

Ignition timing should be at 10 to 12 degrees and the vacuum advance unit needs to be working for low compression engines, and 10 degrees max for hi comp engines.
