Thread: Tyre & Suspension Upgrade

There is no easy way to get extra height using tyres, for instance if you fitted 33's you would need to cut the guards, add flares and replace the CWP's in your diffs to be around 4.1:1, I don't know how much taller your 31.5's are over standard, but if they're taller it will affect your final gearing, which hurts torque and braking, consider a package if you go oversize wheels, like I described, Regards Frank.

Those 265/75/16 will fit but you will have to do a small cut to the back wheel arches, they wont stick out enough to need flares unless you want them, we did this to 2 mates discos about a month ago when they fitted that size mud tyres.

what's the go with that rear guard mod (the name escapes me at the moment).
Can it be cut and then the edge rolled in, to give it a standard-ish look?

Is there no need to modify the front wheel arches at all?

"Camel cut" is the term I think. I should get one as I bent the RH guard on the D1 with just 265/75 R16's Cooper ST's fitted. They still scrub on a really acute angle. As for the front, the steering stops will most likely need to be adjusted to stop scrubbing at full lock but I doubt you'll have enough adjustment & will just have to avoid tight parking lots & tight spots on tracks. Can be a PITA in shopping centres & boat ramp parking with the trailer hitched

Quick update on this:

Suspension upgrade was significantly better!
And the height seemed pretty good.

I got screwed around on price for a set of Bighorns, but landed a set of KM2's at the same size.
While they did fit, I experienced a little rubbing, so off to Old Mates and cut the rear a bit. Then we chucked it up on some ramps to make sure that it wasn't touching anywhere. Which it appeared not to be.

However, I took it for a run over Easter and had some significant rubbing going on. So much so that I damaged the guards and bent the lip. Was a little annoyed with myself, but oh well, its not a show car lol. More cutting and some bashing when I got back. Hoping its ok, but I think I'm gonna have to fit some flexi-flares now. Its a little messy, and could really do with some disguising.

Anyone know someone around Sydney who knows how to do this nice and cheap?

In a nutshell, 265/75/16 will fit with a 2" suspension lift, but you should really cut and tuck the rear guard.
