I think mines supposed to be an ES, same year as yours built in April, but it doesn't have leather seats.
p.s. Just noticed where you live, we go there all the time as in-laws live on Groth Rd
Was the D1 available with different specification levels?
If so, what were the differences?
I have a 96 (which is the update model I understand) but was wondering if there were any other options/ improvements which might be easily retrofitted?
Things like footwell lights etc ?
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

S, Base model
XS, intermediate
& ES, the luxury.
Although, what was actually fitted to these can be a bit of a lucky dip.
XS was supposed to introduce cruise control, but is still missing from many specimens. etc.
The decals on mine say Discovery Turbo Diesel Automatic, there is no spec level indication at all....

I think D1 models didn't really have proper designations til MY97.
There was S, SE, SE7 and the high spec was ES or LS from memory depending on year.
My base model 94 update model has no designation. It does have cruise control though.
Never heard of an XS.
You could fit the twin 8in subwoofers in the back door.
Fog lights if you have the original front bumper.
Woodgrain trim bits.
Leather seats.
Audio control buttons. I think Disco1 buttons where on the instrument binnacle not the wheel.
My ES has the fog lights (well used to anyway), cruise control (that doesn't work) & the woodgrain trim but no leather seats, which by the way I'm glad of.![]()
Level of kit depended on year, as I think they had to take bits off to come in under the Luxury Car Tax.
My 96 build ES has power leather seats, fog lights, some woodgrain and dual sunroofs.
No cruise as was only aftermarket on Tdi's I believe.
My manual talks about optional self levelling headlights and heated front seats and screen as cold climate pack.
Not sure if they all have heated mirrors like mine?
Electric dimming interior mirror was missing on mine, they were prone to exploding apparently!
Cheers
Dave
Hmm my 96 model has cloth seats (manual not electric) - by the way are the electric ones height adjustable? - no woodgrain, no sunroof, no heated mirrors.

No problems with Lucas electrics.....
Yes, they are height adjustable.
Still can't see out the windscreen with them all the way down!
Standard seats are more comfy as the base on the leather ones is too short.
You sit on them rather than in them if that makes sense.
They clean up easier with kids though.
ES also has 7 seats, dual airbags, ABS, 6 CD Stacker with boot sub, door pocket and binnacle stereo controls that do anything else than what they are marked![]()
