    Disco rear diff required

on the weekend my rear diff in my rangie went... well bang and munch.

Dropped the oil - didn't find metal shavings - but in the bottom of the housing I can feel something like a bolt or something - I'll have it out soon - but either way I will need a new diff.

Would rather it be all together so I can slot it in.

Why do I have a disco diff in a rangie? nfi - probly because I got a 4.6lt in it. and I maxi drive axles so 24spline as well.

Any help would be awesome - never had to deal with something like this.

    Cheers,

    Chris

Just have a look on ebay. There's a few people who wreck Discos on there. You should be able to pick one up for around $200.Its quite a straight forward job to change.

If it's the spider gears gone I have two left over from when I fitted lockers. You would have to fit your crown wheel and set it up though. You can have them for free if it helps. I'm driving to Bayswater in the morning to get my clutch replaced and can put them in the car. Let me know if you want them.
    Cheers, David.

    thanks a million guys.

I couldn't get the bit out - but I have a feeling from the size of it that it might be the cross shaft - so I am thinking spider gears might be damaged - and in the end after fingering the hole for a while (heheh) there was some metal and shavings at the bottom :/

The weakest part of the diff are the spider gears. I have seen centre go on ebay from $30 to $200. I don't have any centres left from the D1.

As I said I will be in bayswater all day and the car will be staying until after easter so I can get it over there if you want to have a go with them. I'll throw them in if you want them, if you don't use them pass them on or scrap.
    Cheers, David.
