So, are any longer shafts available, or should we actually need one with that lift? What do others do?

Glad your Son is OK, the lift kits that I've seen have an extended universal joint for the steering shafts, so if yours is the standard LR uni-joint then you need to get the modified/extended one, Regards Frank.

Yes, glad he is OK albeit shaken up John, but the shaft as frank says requires an extension spacer or extended universal fitted with any body lift.

since we do have a RRC wreck is the steering shaft longer in the RRC. is tat a swap option?

Measure it against the original, the original body lift kit should have had an extended uni-joint, maybe you will have to contact a manufacturer of these body lift kits and purchase the correct uni-joint, Regards Frank.

when i fitted the 2" body lift to my disco i used the steering shaft out of a defender it was about an inch or so longer.
