    Smile fuel economy fixes

I've checked out AULRO so often, and found such good info, I thought it was about time I gave back a little.
My 98 V8 on gas was giving terrible economy - between 23 to 28 litres/100k, and that's not towing, and driving gently.
But a cleanout of the engine breather and hoses (yeah, gunky and the small hose to the plenum was blocked) and there was a marked improvement.
Replacing the fuel pressure reg (internal leak) fixed my starting problems and gave another improvement.
And replacing the vacuum advance (didn't hold on the suck test) has helped even more, and given better engine response.
At last measure, I was getting 17l/100, which you'd have to say is a pretty massive improvement.
And I haven't done my plugs, leads or dizzy yet!
Just thought I'd pass it on.

After reading a few posts i got round to checking my timing.
It was set at factory spec _2, I set it back to -9 and what a difference, it used to want to stall at low revs IE it would surge drop back and nearly stall at startup after retarding the timing it just purrs at startup, for some reason it also sounds quieter. Was always good on fuel for a Disco but she returned 12.5 Litres per hundred yesterday sitting on 110 klms using cruise the trip was 90 % highway, most impressed with the Red Dog.
What hoses did you clean, have cleaned the stepper motor and MAF with little return, the exhaust pipe always looks sooty black like the choke is permanently engaged even after long highway runs, guess that's just Discos.
