    Ok, had enough

As the title suggests I've reached the end of my tether. I cant get this pig started and as of 640 last friday morning, i dont have another car, ( courtesy of taxi backing out of driveway and me on a wet road). Does anyone know of anyone who would come to my place ( Epping, Vic) ang get it running? Otherwise the next trip for it will be to the tip. Please help!

What vehicle is it,, we might be able to make some suggestions on things to check.
Is it tryin to fire (V8), but not quite? Does it actually start but not run? Etc etc etc. I can't come over I'm afraid, but someone may be closer, and if it's not petrol, I can't help much anyway . Not that I know that much about the V8's anyway, but sometimes it can be the simplest of things often spotted by a fresh set of eyes.
How long since you've replaced the fuel pump, is a coil wire off, or any other wires for that matter.

It's a '91 petrol disco. New battery, wont even turn over, turn key to start and relay in drivers footwell goes nuts, asdoes the starter relay in passenger footwell. Sounds like a major short or bad earth but buggered if i can find it.

Check all your earth cables and connections. Battery to body, to engine, etc. I think there is one from the body to the chassis as well.

Try taking a direct feed from the battery with some jump leads (and bridge across to the solenoid with a screwdriver) to see if you can get the starter to spin and start that way.

If the starters clicking over like mad, I would suggest there's not enough power getting through. I'm sorry to say, but just because its a new battery doesn't mean its fully charged. If it is charged well, then as the others said, check all your cables.

    nahh your apples so far.

Try spending a week lining up parts that should have been lined up for a cooling system over haul do do the overhaul to have the exhaust work delayed only to find that as soon as you start the engine the clutch is stuffed so you have toblow your weekend out changing out a clutch when both the cooling system overhaul would have gone so much faster and easier while the engine was out for a clutch change.

Of course the clutch was fine when the engine stopped from overheating and killing the head so it must have just miraculously died when the engine was started for the cooling system bleed.

Just to add insult to injury... You may not mention in any way shape or form the words engine monitor, EMS, low coolant alarm and "Told you so"

start with a good battery, check the battery clamps, the earth leads, jump directly from the battery to the block close to the starter for an earth and give that a go. Take the + lead and get onto the main terminal on the starter solenoid then bridge onto the started signal post see what that does.

squirt in the eye coming up

After checking the cables are correct and it dosn't still want to turn over , whip all the spark plugs out and stand back while someone operates the starter switch.

Hi mate just because it has a land rover badge doesn't mean that its any different to any other vehicle on the road. To me it sounds like you have bought yourself a flat/dud battery (it does happen) like the above posters have said start with the basics , how was the machine running before battery issue? has there been any other work been performed in vehicle just before break down i.e. electrical work, welding etc.

Take the battery back the place of purchase and get it checked, If that's not the issue have a look at the stater motor (could be stuffed), see if the relay is actually working(if it is sending feed to the starter motor ,if you are not mechanically minded you may have to take it to an autosparky
