My D1 was made in 1999. Ill have a look tomorrow what month.

There was D1 on evilBay the the owner claimed was a 99 build recently

Im pretty sure they stopped making th D1 in 98 but they were licenced in 99 still

Land Rover started building the D2 in the autumn of 1998, so your armchair expert is right. However, I remember reading somewhere that the D1 continued production for a few months afterwards.

If the 10th and 11th characters (I think!) of your Chassis number are WA then it is a 1998.

Don't forget the compliance date can be quite a while after the build date.

My compliance plate says 6-99. Is there a way to tell when it was built from the Chassis Number?

My D1 compliance plate says 3/98 but there is another more "factory" looking plate that says manufactured Aug '97. when I was re-registering the inspector said that the Aust compliance plate date was the guide for year model for his paperwork.

Theres is a build date attached to the chasiss. Not to sure if on the side panels or on the inside front near the p/steer bottle. Mine was built 7/98, Aust compliance 12/98, rego 1/99.
