Thread: Discovery 1 1993 3.5l Coolant Temp Sensor

The 3.5 Discovery 1 is exactly the same as the 3.9 V8 RRC so any discussion about 3.9 also applies to the 3.5 Discovery.
Both use the 14CUX ECU, injectors and all the same sensors.

AND yes the water temperature sensor can cause poor fuel economy as can several other things like the vacuum advance and so on.
Have a look at 14CUX economy, 3.9 economy etc etc.

Recently changed my faulty Coolant Temp Sensor, so will let you know in the next couple of days when I fill it up re fuel consumption, I was getting 20L per 100 klm before the change, so am hoping for an improvement.

Hi Kevin,

Mine is a 3.9l but seems they are the same as 3.5l

Part no: ETC8496 cost $30, plus may pay to factor in a sensor plug as well, they seem to disintergrate when removing them after 20 odd years, a good s/hand one cost me $15.

Got them from Brian, at Land Vehicle Spares Silverdale (02) 4774 1741

Well finally got around to filling it up and I am still getting approx 20L/100klm so no difference for me, but the car certainly goes better than it did before so all's good.

Old thread I know, but anyone know what the resistances are for the single contact temp senders used in the '93 V8s? Tbis is the gauge sender.
