    Tough Tourer

    Hello guys!

I am currently in the market for a Discovery set up for "Tough Touring" i have been following the market section and searching online for sometime now waiting for that perfect match ...

I thought it wouldn't hurt to throw an add in the wanted section which i did and i have received some feedback but still searching. I thought i might throw a thread in here to see if any of you guys have seen a "Tough Tourer" around for sale other than on this forum

I apolagise to the Admin if this thread is unacceptable!

    Kind Regards, James.

    Very valid point Slunnie!

My idea of a "Tough Tourer" is something along the lines of the following modifications.

    2-3 INCH LIFT
    31-33 INCH MUD TERRAINS
    -25 OFFSET WHEELS
    SNORKEL
    FRONT BAR/SLIDERS/REAR BAR
    WINCH
    UHF RADIO
    SPOT LIGHTS/AUXILIARY
    CARGO BARRIER
    LONG RANGER EXTENDED FUEL TANK
ARB AIR LOCKERS FRONT AND REAR
    DIFF GUARDS FRONT AND REAR
    BRAIDED BRAKE LINES
    HD STEERING DAMPER
    HD STEERING RODS
    FLEXI FLARES
    TEMPERATURE ALARM
    LED LIGHTING SYSTEM BACK COMPARTMENT
    ROOF RACKS
    ROOF TOP TENT
    FULL TENT ANNEX
    DUAL BATTERY SYSTEM
    CARGO AREA DRAWS
    FRIDGE/FREEZER

In regards to Manual or Auto i am not too concerned however i am after something post 95 with the facelift and new interior. This list is essentially a direct copy and paste from an Add which i missed a few months ago unfortunately.

    Kind Regards, James.

    James,

My advice is wait until something you like comes up. Anyone who has set up a tourer like that and not looking to sell will expect top dollar for it (I would), which I'm guessing you don't want to pay.

The list of accessories you've listed will set you back around $16 to $18k new (assuming reasonable quality), possibly more if you get them installed by someone else.

You ideally want to find someone who has put in the hard work / poured in the money, and decided they need / want something else, in which case, their price has to match what a buyer is willing to pay for it.

Unless you're prepared to pay top dollar for it of course, in which case I'm sure you'd get a few offers on here. :-)

    Good luck

    Bojan

He may not be referring to tyres at exactly 31/33 inch. I usually refer to my 245/75R16s as 31 inch tyres in a casual conversation. It's usually just easier for some to understand.

However I could be wrong. If so, I agree, those tyres sizes can at times be difficult to come by. Though this happens less and less often these days.

Tough and Tourer dont necessarily go together, your list is way over the top for touring purposes. I'd be more worried about buying a well maintained vehicle with a few mods to aid reliability .

    Offender90,

I see you point in regards to the listing price of the modifications being high when newly purchased, however as we know when installed and sold in a used condition this original out lay of money is not fully returned.

I am willing to pay what a truck is worth if this seen value is met by myself and the seller. As I am new to looking around the list I have shown below is from an add which went for 10k with a recently rebuilt motor and a significant amount of registration.

I would be happy to go above this price for the right vehicle this was just a rough guide.

    Lewy,
I just used inches for simplicity but as suggested I was referring to tyres such as 245/75R16s

    Kind regards, James.

    Loanrangie,

I'm aware the two classes are very different, however it was just the easiest way to try and convey the idea of a 4x4 which will be comfortable, convienient and reliable for touring as well as capable in the tougher terrain on a local weekend run.

What items do you see to be excessive? All opinions are welcomed

    Kind regards!
