Any photos of it, how was the clearance of the 265s? and the extra height of 85s?
Finally got a reply.
I guess maybe it time to get different rims.

A 265/75 R16 is not recommended on a 16x7 inch rim as they are slightly to big.
Maxxis do a 245/75 R16 in the new MT764 Bighorn that will be a better fit & is recommended.
Trust this fulfils your request.

Thats rubbish, plenty on here with 265's on stock d1 steel /alloy rims, doesnt matter if they are 265/70 or 265/75 as its only the height that changes.
245/70 or 245/75 is a good size if you dont want to cut the guards although you will need to do the " Camel Cut " on the rears if you dont want to cut your new tyres up.

Hey Mate,
Agreed!! Absolutely rubbish!! There are plenty of cars from the factory with 265/70's on 7" rims!! If it's good enough for major car manufacturers, then it's sure as hell good enough for us.
The issue with the 265 will obviously be it's fit regards to your guards. If you are happy to do a bit of trimming (you will need to with 245's as well, as has been said) then you shouldn't have any issues with the 265/75's. It's not a bad size at all, though you will find many LR "purists" will say there is no need to go so wide and that the 235/85's are the "better" size. Each to there own, all up to your personal choice really.
Chris
that response was from maxxis tyres Australia. thanks for the reply, is there any posts on doing the camel cut to fit the 265's? so I can get in and do it before I get some 265's.
if you do a search for camel cut you will get plenty of info, just take your time and do it neatly and no one will even notice.
