Lost half the clutch travel?

hello people,

was on my way home from work today, going as well as the traffic will allow, one gear change is as normal, the next seems to be about half way down the pedal, the clutch still works perfectly, but if its moving down the pedal will I be loosing it soon?

the clutch fluid is all present and correct and there is no slipping.

the clutch separates the engine from the gearbox and is the pedal on the left, apart from that I know NOTHING about it, I actually had to look up where the clutch fluid went in so I could check it, so please be gentle with me

It is the slave cylinder. Makes you feel as the biting point is disappearing down the pedal and into the engine bay.

The slave cylinder is in the bell housing. Not too much money but get a new one and not a repair kit. It you get a repair kit you will be doing it again in a few months.

When that happened on mine it was the clutch lever pivot about to break through. Lasted about a day before it finally popped.
Hope its not that with yours

Sorry to hear that, I'm with you hoping it's not that as I have 1 more day of work before I can get it done.

Got the slave cylinder on the way and hoping thats the problem, although I understand they can be tough to bleed, all part of the fun I suppose.

Hi finallyrangie,

Happened to mine recently, and was the spring inside the master cylinder had broken into 5 pieces, as a precaution i changed both master and slave. you can get both really cheaply, but as with most things you get what you pay for, so i went for the more expensive ones about $200 the pair, before changing them I found that if i lifted the pedal with my foot i then got full travel for 1 push.

Thanks for all the replies people, I had the slave cylinder in the car last night when a red p plater was kind enough to turn right in front of me when my light was green, from 45kmph you cannot stop a disco in 2 metres, so I am taking the part back for a refund and waiting to see if the insurance are going to fix or right off, at least I have a chance, the other guys car just disintegrated.

A 'P' plate fix for a clutch problem, I bet you wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry.

For what it's worth, my slave cylinder push rod wasn't seated properly and I experienced the exact same symptoms, half pedal but it still engaged ok.

All it needed had I known, was the master cylinder rod needed readjusting.
