Disco 1 Remote Fob
So, I ran in to an issue that plagues Disco (and other) owners in that I couldn't use the remote fob to unlock/lock or disarm (mobilise) my vehicle. Even went as far as trying (unsuccessfully) to override the immobiliser via the security code/driver's-side door lock solution. Nada...
Initially thought it was a flat battery (I'd been having intermittent issues with the remote), but after changing that and resetting the remote (press unlock 4 times), I was still no closer to getting mobile again.
Eventually I was able to make contact with the very helpful board member, Justin Cooper, the Independent Land Rover Specialist here in Taswegia.
There are plenty here who praise him, and to their voices I add mine. I rang him and we talked through the problem, detailing all that I had tried.
He then suggested I look closely inside the fob at the three battery points that connect the battery to the PC board. Bingo!!! This is what I found on the middle pin/pole:

As you can see, the solder joint was clearly separated and was only working when sufficient pressure was placed on the button to have the solder make contact again. Not at all ideal.
So, 5 mins down the road to Carswell Auto Electrics and with a fine solder tip, the connection was remade. Back to the Disco, new battery, reset and we were once again mobile!!!
So, if ever you have exhausted all possibilities, check the solder points on the battery cage inside the fob. It would take only a small break in one of the three contact points to render the remote useless, and unless you could see it, you might spend stupid amounts of money at a local 'dealer' to get it fixed.
Thanks, JC, you've made my week
