    Rb30

Was interested to see if anyone has used an rb30 engine in a disco 1? Cheers

Great idea! Haven't seen one in a Disco yet, but would certainly love to!
Go the 30 bottom end with a 25 or 26 head. Should be plenty of well built ones for sale,
Or just an Rb30 with the original head, SOHC, are dirt cheap from the wreckers.
I know a couple of Pootrol's that have just the rb25 in them.

Are you looking at doing a build or paying someone to convert it?

yeah im a qualified mechanic so I plan on doing my own conversion.
my work mate has the rb30det he built himself for his gq so ill get a few tips from him.
will most likely start of with the single cam turbo and go from there.

great engine, but you might have some trouble registering it as the engine is older than the earliest discovery

axles and diffs might not last long either

it would be interesting to see though!

Great engine, VERY strong and VERY tunable

A gearing change to 4.10 diffs would be mandatory I reckon.

I have a few here and thought about it for a defender swap.but a 3.8 VN/VS motor are beter value.my brother inlaw just bought a hilux with a super charged 3.8 for a farm ute.

the engines as long as a holden 6 but taller.the RB20-25 is a shorter block.but fuel economy is not very good.
    Japanese LPG engine is RB20P

work out your ratio based on RB30 patrol.
these engines have LOW[no] grunt at low rpm.
you want lower than 4.1-some patrols run 4.8:1.

its gear box you need to work out.my conversion stopped because my disco are automatics.

skyline has oil pan at the front.
patrol and fairlady 200ZR[RB20DET] have rear oil pan.
patrol RB30 has stronger water pump casing and V belts.
    and normal distributor.

I thought about RB20E or ET single cam.my import skyline RB20E makes maX power and tourque at 7500 RPM cut out.and it will do this for a long time.

the single cam RB30 can make more usable power than a DET until you go to turbos.

Dave, I agree they are not a perfect match, but as a 6 cyl engine they are a really good unit. The Toyota 1 or 2 JZ are also giant killers, but gearing needs a good look in to make it a worthwhile conversion.

A very bias imput but $ for $ the 2JZ engine will EAT an RB engine hands down every day of the week.

ULTRA RELIABLE 700hp+ bottom end STOCK.

Piston squirters in the GTE variant to prevent detonation

    Yamaha tuned Manifold's

Map not MAF (easy to boost performance)

ect ect all in stock trim.

I have 600+hp in my Supra (Stock Bottom end) and swear by the rumor mill on the build quality.
